Celebrating the new CLEAN FOOD!
More than a cookbook, CLEAN FOOD to me represents a journey like nothing I could have ever imagined. I remember clearly the cooking class in 2003 when someone inquired innocently, “Would you ever consider binding your recipes so that I could purchase them to share with my friends.” To that person and so many others who asked and asked for years until I finally self-published CLEAN FOOD in 2007 I owe thanks.
In 2003, I would never have believed that some day my community would include agents, publishers, editors… Nor would I ever think that words such a bestseller, James Beard Foundation and “award winning” would ever appear in the same conversation as my name. And through it all, I have been most nourished by the connection with you and so many others who share this passion and value what’s good, clean and fair.
While today is the launch of the new revised and expanded edition of CLEAN FOOD – with photographs throughout, variations to make every recipe gluten free, a new section dedicated to clean snacking and 20 new recipes – it is also five years to the day since I launched that very first self-published edition. I have much to be grateful for, and to show my appreciation I’d like to say thank you by giving away two signed copies of the new CLEAN FOOD. Simply comment on how CLEAN FOOD nourishes you, and you’ll be entered into a random drawing. Eligibility is limited to those in the United States. Winners will be announced Friday, October 12th.
Thank you all for your support, your friendship and helping me celebrate this milestone.
Eat clean live well!

Love the winter recipes especially, soups and stews, braised greens. Yum. Congratulations Terry!
Hi Terry I am a proud owner of your 1st edition Clean Food and Clean Start cookbooks, and continue to refer to them frequently. It is nourishing even just to sit down with these books, I so enjoy read over your interesting commentary and taking in the mouth-watering pictures. My favorite recipe is the Clean Food hummus recipe, now practically a staple in our home–it yields a bowlful goodness so far superior to store-bought! Congratulations on the launch of your new edition!
Terry, I can’t say enough about your recipes and cookbooks. They are my go to resources when I need ideas and one of your oatmeal cookie recipes is made on a weekly basis. Thank your for helping me feed my family clean, whole foods.
Hello Terry! I first want to congratulate on your book and success. I have always been curious about Clean Food..as far as nourishing me I can’t speak personally but do know from experience and just hitting dead end after dead end that when I eat well and do fruit and veggies and cut refined carbohydrates I feel great and can only imagine if I dove into some of these recipes how energized I’d feel..Lethargic is not how I want to feel or look!!
Take Care~
Kim
I have borrowed a neighbor’s copy of Clean Food and really enjoyed it. I would love a copy of my own – especially the new revised edition. Thank you for the chance to win one.
I LOVE your Clean Food cookbook- not only are the recipes delicious, I feel like I learned so much about ingredients and nutrition from the section in the front. My kids are fans too – the corn chowder and winter vegetable soup are regulars in our house! Thanks for all the great recipes!
I love that Clean Food contains a clean version of almost anything I crave. Love just browsing through it for new inspiration. Congrats on the new release!
Such a lovely book, I’m super excited to get started on the fall/winter section!
Hello Terry….
SO happy about the New Expanded Clean Food!! I love how your book nourishes not just my body with all your yummy recipes but also my mind with all the great nutrition facts and how-to’s!!
Congratulations Terry! I love love love your books and am such a fan of your work and all you’ve done to bring clean eating to the masses. I really had not ever paid much attention to eating seasonally until just recently and it makes such a difference. Looking forward to the new season’s recipes.
I was recently diagnosed with celiac and intestinal permeability (leaky gut). I was placed on a highly restrictive diet to heal my leaky gut and reduce the inflamation in my body. With so many things on the do not eat list, I thought I wouldn’t be able to enjoy food for a very long time. Happily, the Clean Food cookbook proved me wrong.kAle with shallots became a regular on my menu along with many others. Now that the cookbook has been revamped for gluten free recipes I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy.
I found your book “Clean Start” last year when looking for a vegetarian cookbook with healthy recipes including gluten and dairy free options. I am not vegetarian but heading in that direction more & more. As a co-owner of a photography studio, I was immediately drawn to the gorgeous images and design. What I found inside was even BETTER! Love every recipe I’ve tried so far and have passed it along to my dear friend and nutritionist. There is nothing I would love more than the Clean Food book. But even if I don’t win, I would be happy to buy it and own it just the same. Thank you for your expertise, energy, time & caring!
I saw you speak twice when the first version of Clean Foods was being published and I continue to be impressed by how far you have carried your cause. I’m thrilled to see how well received your concept has been and it gives me hope that more people will ENJOY taking better care of themselves. I would love to win the revised version of “Clean Food” for my Mom – she is just at the beginning of her journey of eating healthy and wholesome. She is an excellent cook and I think your book may provide a key connection between her love of cooking and making food that helps her stay on track…and is delicious!
Congratulations and keep up the great work!
I have the original book from the first book party and still love it! Wyatt and I are excited to get the fall soups simmering
Clean food is healing, nourishing. You just feel better when you eat it. You feel light and healthy, not dragged down, and full of energy. Plus you get the joy of cooking it! Congratulations Terry! We met at BlogHer in Seattle this year. I saw your cookbook in the kitchen of friends this week, and the one thing they said was they wished it had pictures. Now it will!
I’m nourished by tasty ideas that keep my kitchen from getting boring! This is also one of the few cookbooks I recommend to my detox groups. Thanks Terry!
Thank you, Gretchen. Sounds like we’re both winter people! I’ve especially been craving those soups, roasted vegetables, braised greens…these past few days as our leaves have started to turn. Love this cooler weather and all the tastes that go with it! Yum!
Thank you for sharing the journey, Cathy. That hummus recipe has probably been made in my home more than any other recipes (except, of course, the granola!). I finally got a Vitamix blender last year and it makes the smoothest, most delicious hummus ever! Hmmm…maybe I should go make some now! : )
I came across your “clean start” cook book at a barns & noble 2 years ago when i began my journey to health (I have since lost 50 lbs and ran a 1/2 marathon). The recipes nourished my family and myself as well as helped me learn how to eat better over all. Having such great recipes really helped to keep my mind open to try new foods as well. I even enjoy tempeh now. I would love the oportunity to enjoy your latest release. Congrats on the new book!
Thank you, Dawn! Which is your favorite? The straight forward oatmeal raisin or my favorite, the coconut chocolate chip banana cookies?
Congratulations Terry!!
Clean food keeps me feeling my best — light and full of energy — so that I can bring my best self to all that I do.
Very excited about the gluten-free options!! Thank you!
~Erin
Aw…so great to hear from you, Kim. If only it were as easy as holding the intention and just eating clean! I think the greatest gift I’ve received from this journey is the support and inspiration from so many. It’s definitely helped me stay the course when times are tough. I hope you’ll join the conversation on the CLEAN FOOD page on Facebook, and maybe even a class one of these days soon? The schedule is on the calendar on my website. Would be great to see you. xo
Thank you, Leah! I hope there’s a copy of CLEAN FOOD in your future, too!
It sounds like we all have similar favorites! I better not let me kids read these comments or they’ll likely not let me out of the kitchen until I’ve made them all. Funny how when the seasons change you forget about the favorites from the year before. Jenny, I haven’t thought about that corn chowder since last winter, but I guarantee now that you’ve mentioned it it will be dinner one night this week!
Jackie, many of my recipes are inspired by my own cravings, so no surprises there! If there’s a recipe you’d like that’s not in one of my books, don’t hesitate for a second to request it here on my blog. That’s always a pretty sure fire way to get me cooking up new recipes for future books!
Thanks Kira, Patricia and Dasha! Need a “like” button on my blog! : )
Dave, many of the recipes in CLEAN FOOD were ones I developed when my youngest had leaky gut. No wonder they’re working so well for you! I remember her list of “avoid” foods was miles long, and yet, we used to give her supplements everyday mixed in peanut butter (just the opposite of what any other kids with food allergies could do). I’m glad you’re enjoying your clean food and happy to have had the opportunity to make it gluten-free like CLEAN START. Eat clean live well!
Annie, thank you so much for your kind words, and especially for your shout out to photographers, Andrea Gentl & Marty Hyers. They are amazing photographers and people and it’s an honor to work with them.
Thanks for being here from the start, Heather! Here’s to inspiring and supporting your mom on her clean food journey!
LOL! The book is older than Wyatt! Hmmm…I think he needs a swing set (hint hint hint). xo
Great to hear from you, Sally! Wish we were launching CLEAN FOOD back in Seattle! What a great city and great BlogHer conference that was. Thanks for your well wishes!
Thank you, Michelle, for all YOU do to inspire healthy change and, of course, for all of your support here on my blog and on the CLEAN FOOD page on Facebook, too! Eat clean live well!
I can’t wait to get my hands on this new cookbook! I have your first two cookbooks and they are a staple in my kitchen. Your amazing recipes have helped make my non-veggie-loving family members into believers, and your Deep Dish Greens is one of my all-time favorite recipes! Your Clean Food nourishes my body and I haven’t felt better.
THANK YOU, TERRY!
Thank YOU, Erin! If you’re a winner, you may just have to pass along that first edition and share that Deep Dish Greens recipe! : )
I am nourished by how simple it can be to care for myself and family. Love these recipes, and their simplicity!
Clean food enables me to wake up happy, feel good about nourishing myself, my family and my friends, run after kids, and rest well knowing I’m doing well by my body and the earth that provides for it.
Clean food has nourished my sons asthma and my fibromyalgia. We made the switch to vegan a few years back but now have been both diagnosed with celiac as well. So happy to find out the new updated version will address this further for us. Thank for all your hard work! It makes one tired mamas journey a bit easier.
I have been involved in clean foods since I was a junior in high school.
I was introduced to natural foods by an older friend of mine and it has been an incredible journey. Way back then in 1983 the local organic food movement, at least in our area of Upstate NY was very small. Not many Health food stores and organic produce was all most impossible to find unless you grew your own. Now we have a Slow Food group several CSA’s and 5 health foods stores within a 25 mile radius. It’s a great time to be eating clean. This book is an incredible work. I was looking through cook books at Barnes & Nobles and I came across Clean Food and then found Clean Start. Indeed these are more than cook books they are motivation tools, guides inspiration. I especially love the fact that your a graduate from IIN. I am currently enrolled and will finish in December. Your writing is truly inspiring and I hope to be able to accomplish in my area what you have. Thanks for the inspiration. Eating clean keeps me young, positive, and happy and I love sharing this with everyone I know.
Amen to that! Thanks Lizzy and Bernadette!
Christina, from one tired mama to another, here’s to the nourishment that results from sharing the journey!
Todd, it sounds like your little corner of upstate NY has become a clean food paradise! Also sounds like your well on your way to accomplishing what’s in your heart. Thanks for your kind words and for sharing clean food! As you said last week…”Every drop of water raises the sea!”
CLEAN FOOD ROCKS!! Your book was the primer for my reintroduction to healthy eating. I became a vegetarian at age 18 but after working 20+ years of long hours at a sedentary job, I was overweight and undernourished. Your book became my guide to learning how and what to feed myself to regain my health. Seventeen months later and 90 pounds lighter, I am truly grateful for the knowledge and wonderful recipes found in CLEAN FOOD. Also, I began eating gluten-free about six months ago and am very excited to see that reflected in your recipes. Congratulations on your past and continued success. Thanks for helping me change my life.
As one who is dependent upon clean eating for my health, I’m always looking for new sources for recipes and ideas. Once I found CLEAN FOOd and CLEAN START, I didn’t have to go looking so often. They are my go to cookbooks. And they’re beautiful. Thank you, Terry and congratulations on the publication of the new CLEAN FOOD. The accolades are well deserved.
Dear Terry
As someone diagnosed with Hashimotos, I am researching ways to reverse this disorder and heal. My stepson has encouraged me to go gluten free. Your recipes and enthusiasm (not in that order) have inspired me and helped me on my journey. No matter what the outcome, I am feeling much better, more energetic. A big thank you.
Congratulations to YOU, Jen! Keep on eating clean and living well! xo
Thank you Laura and so great to hear from you!
Ann, it sounds like you and our son make a great team. I’m honored to have my books be part of your journey to good health!
Terry – I bought several copies to share with friends as holiday gifts. “Clean Food” helped introduce me to new choices and gave me wonderful ways to use kale, quinoa, etc. Best wishes on the success of the new incarnation of “Clean Food.”
Congratulations! So excited to update my bookshelf and decide who to pass the first edition on to…
See you soon!
Thank you, Andrea! Can’t wait to see you in Boston at the end of the month! : )
Jill, thank you for your support and for helping spread the word!
I have Clean Start and it is the most used cookbook in my collection – these recipes have given me the ability to make clean, healthy food for my family with simple ingredients and delicious flavors! I absolutely love it, and have wanted Clean Food for so long but haven’t been able to bite the bullet yet… so excited to see the new version is available, and would love to win one!!
Terry,
Congrats on the revision of Clean Start! I know this book will bring you much success as all of your other books have. Thanks for inspiring me to nourish my family everyday with great recipes for whole foods!
~Karen
Thank you, Karen, and see you in class soon!
Clean food keeps my intestinal villi tall and my absorptive capacity intact!!!
Terry, your recipes are the stepping stones that I needed to get my lifestyle headed in a new direction. And while it didn’t happen over night, your book was the one that kind of broke threw the barrier that I had had all my life in connection with eating healthier. When your second edition came out I was vaguely interested, and purchased it on a whem. Now I am glad that I did, and glad I could pass that copy on to someone else who needed the same breakthrough moment that I did. Just this last week I have started my “No more I hate the mirror” lifestyle change. And your book is center stage.
Through your book we all found out that you don’t have to go to a fine dining restaurant to get something delicious and healthy. And the fact that it is also about eating closer to the source is a bonus! Congratulations on your relaunch, and I sincerly hope that isn’t that last wonderfull gift that you write for us!
~Brittany~
Heartfelt thanks, Brittany, and congratulations on all the steps you’ve taken to reach your health goals. It’s an honor to be part of your journey.
I was fortunate enough to sample the “Raw Kale Confetti Salad with Toasted Sunflower Seeds” that you prepared for us at the “Taste of Atlanta” — it was a revelation… thank you
How does Clean Food nourish me? Oh a tough question!
It nourishes me by helping me pick healthy (vegan) recipes for my family so we can eat new and yummy things.
Im just getting started with clean eating and becoming vegetarian. I would be honoured to win this book to get me and my family off to a “clean start”!
Hi, Terry! Congrats on your continued – I continually look forward to learning from you. CLEAN FOOD has helped me feel better. I have recently transitioned to eating mostly vegan and your recipes offer a great variety of food for me to eat. I have noticed a change in how I feel by eating cleaner – I am not bloated and I just feel clean.
I don’t know how it nourishes me because I haven’t read about it yet but i’m interested!
I love Clean Food! The recipes are fabulous. Clean eating has changed my health for the better. Thanks Terry!
I try to eat as clean as possible, but with my lack of creativity it can be difficult to share my passion with others. Your recipes help me put together lots of dishes that are great for you and look pretty enough for even skeptics to want to try. Keep cooking!
Clean Food is truly my #1 cookbook. I’ve been so inspired over the years by my kitchen experiences via Clean Food, that I’ve converted MANY a friend to the idea of veganism- or the plain fact that vegetables can taste SOOOO good. I love that I can transition from root veggies to light summer salads to lasagna all in one book. Thanks for the many good meals Terry!
I was hooked on Clean Food that day I saw your presentation at the Simsbury Library! I’m especially fond of the Teff Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies. Who can live without cookies?
I love all your recipes! With being newer on the journey to healthy living and eating, it is a great guide!
Congratulations on the new edition. My sister received the second-edition of Clean Food as a gift a few years ago, and since diving into it last summer, it has given us new opportunities to seek out fresh, seasonal CT produce. Clean Food (and Clean Start) nourishes me, not only with delicious clean food, but also with inspiration for new dishes, and it has introduced me to a lot of new foods that I was missing out on. Like lentil loaf. MMmmmmm.
Not sure how it nourishes me yet because I am just learning about you. Very interesting, great receipts, terrific information.
Hi Terry! Congratulations on your cookbook successes. You are a true inspiration. I have always relished the thought of owning your cookbook, but have never actually pulled the trigger. I have, instead, resorted to browsing them over a coffee in my local bookseller, and on occasion drooling over a copy at my friend’s house. The same friend pointed out this blog posting to me (as she is obviously one of your devout disciples), and I couldn’t resist posting a note to you in hopes that I might the next person to be nourished by means of CLEAN FOOD. All the best.
Once I discovered Clean Food in my local library, I used it week after week to delight and surprise my young family with healthy and tasty recipes! I checked it out so many times that I finally got my own copy for my birthday! Thank you so much! Would love a copy to give to a friend.
I am new to clean food. My mom was just diagnosed with breast cancer and we are starting to eat healthier. Its great to find tasty and healthy recipes to eat. Thankyou.
I must admit that I haven’t looked at the book, but since tasting your salads, I’m convinced that I need to own it.
Congratulations Terry! I am really looking forward to your next book. I have clean start and cannot wait for the new edition of Clean Food. The give away is a great idea and glad to have a chance at it. Enjoy the rest of your book tour.
CLEAN FOOD gives me easy, nourishing, and energetic meal ideas and information that keeps me youthful and full of life. I am able to reach my full potential because of the diet that i discovered by reading CLEAN FOOD.
I often take out my Clean Food cookbook, and flip through the pages licking my lips and saying yummmm!
Thanks
I didn’t answer the question about how Clean Food nourishes me, but your book(s) changed the way I approach food. I learned so much about proper preparation of beans and grains in just the first few pages. I’m especially grateful for the recipes for snacks and sweets that are free of white flour and sugar, because experimenting with healthier alternatives can be tricky. Thank you for taking the time to test and retest recipes until you’ve gotten them right. From the red lentil, turnip, and parsley soup to the peanut butter teff cookies, all of your recipes are delicious!
Congratulations, Terry. Our first edition is dog-eared from use. Looking very forward to the new edition. Very happy for you and wishing you astronomical sales.
Thank you, Tim! “Astronomical” – now there’s a great word! It should only happen…for us both! And just in case any of you are wondering what Tim writes about… http://timfrick.com/books/
