Women Creating A Healthier Future

As a child, I based my definition of success on what I suspected would make my parents proud. Good grades, a good career, traditional values… In my adult life, my own definition of success has emerged – being true to what is in my heart and pursuing my passion. This past year has afforded me the opportunity to meet amazing people, all of whom share a passion for living a healthy life. Not only have they taken great risks to follow their hearts, but in doing so they are creating a healthy future for themselves and so many others. While there are more people than I can possibly highlight in one post, these few women in particular have inspired me. I hope they inspire you, too.

SUSAN NOLTE is the founder of MAY COOKIE COMPANY which she founded in 2008. Susan bakes cookies. I love cookies. The match was made in heaven (and my children are quite fond of her, too)! When I met Susan, she was trying to figure out how to sell her healthy cookies. Two years later, Susan’s May Cookie Company features a line of all-natural cookie mixes that allow busy, health-conscious consumers to enjoy baking from scratch (with just enough help). Susan’s cookie mixes have been featured in a variety of local magazines and are even sold at my local Whole Foods. But what I like even more than Susan’s cookies is the positive energy she brings to every detail of her business, her flexibility, and the confidence she holds in her heart that it will all happen. Indeed, she’s making it so.

Lisa Tiezzi of Tiezzi Imports and Tutti Amici

Lisa Tiezzi of Tiezzi Imports and Tutti Amici

LISA TIEZZI imports olive oil from Italy. I met Lisa at the farm a while back and shared a bottle of olive oil and a loaf of rustica bread (made by another amazing woman – Kathy Duffy of Sweet Sage Bakery). Being a locavore, my first question to Lisa was “why oil from Italy?” Her response rang true to everything I believe in. Lisa had been visiting family friends in Italy and over a shared meal, one expressed his dream to sell his olive oil in the United States. Lisa set forth to make it happen, and so TUTTI AMICI (all friends) Olive Oils began. Her oils are pure, minimally filtered and delicious. I swear you can feel the friendship that inspired this company in every taste!

The last entrepreneur I want to highlight I’ve known much longer than this past year… she is my very own DAUGHTER! She doesn’t have a company, but I guarantee she’ll be one to watch for down the road. If you’ve followed my blog, you’ve read about her recent goat kidding experiences. There are so many traits that I admire in the women above, and I’m certain I’m completely objective in my opinion that my daughter has them all. So dedicated and passionate about her work at the farm, her love for the goats, and her deep respect and care for her incredible teacher, she has thrown herself completely into helping her teacher realize her dream of running a dairy out of her family farm. Like a responsible parent would, my husband recently checked on my daughter’s computer to check up on her internet activity. To our surprise, every site visit was a search for used commercial sinks, pasteurizers, commercial flooring, paint swatches…all pulled to create this proposal for “the dairy.”

Caren's Dairy

I have no doubt that my daughter will succeed in creating this vision, I’m just not sure if it will be for her teacher’s dairy, or for her own. Her teacher once said to me that she thinks my daughter will use her nurturing nature, her creativity and her passion to change the world. Already, she has changed mine.

The more you put your intention out into the world, the sooner the world will reflect what’s in your heart. Thank you for allowing me to share mine. I look forward to learning about yours.

I’m turning 45 this year. It’s so awesome to look forward to it. I only learned to embrace life and each year that comes from the beautiful and inspiring women in the world. The women God blessed my life with totally healed my emotions, spirit, body, and mind. I’m so happy with who I am and excited for growth.
Joyce Meyer, Beth Moore, Stormie Omartian my spiritual heroes.

The everyday women in my life who love their husbands, care for their children, and keep balance in their lives are all around me.

This year God has blessed me with learning to be proactive in my health and environment those women are (in order of finding them): Ellen Barrett (actually rediscovering), Alicia Silverstone, Terry Walters.

I am a very blessed and grateful woman.

You totally inspired me to do a blog on this. It’ll stream to our facebook as well. I stayed up and thought about all the other women in my life and it just went from there.

Have a great weekend. Can’t wait for the new cookbook.
