Taking It to the Street!

It’s not every day that my sleepy little town does something completely unexpected. So when opportunity knocked, I got myself and my oldest daughter out of bed early and headed into town to be part of the action. The event? “Asana on LaSalle” – think flash mob meets power yoga, 480 people on two lanes in the heart of town. And heart is what we found without question. One community, sharing one practice, meditating for peace and good health and transforming an otherwise busy intersection into a steady flow of unified breathing, movement and prayer.

Never, in my wildest dreams did I expect to be saluting the sun and meditating for peace while seated on the double yellow line that divides east from west (no, that’s not I in the picture). And yet, there I was, flanked by family and friends both new and old. And in addition to having a wonderful practice and morning, I learned something, too – that when enough people come together with a shared intention, they have the power to transform and create beauty.

Much thanks to Barbara Ruzanksy of WHY (West Hartford Yoga) for leading us in such a powerful practice, and to Lululemon for displaying their commitment to the health and wellness of our community in such an awesome way.

Here’s to breathing in healing energy, sinking deeper into new positions, and discovering a practice that allows you to stay rooted and reach for new heights every day.

Eat clean, live well, yoga on!

That is so wonderful! I would love to see them do something like that in my small town. Granted it is about 1000 degrees outside so sitting on the pavement unless it is dark out is going to be tough without burning one’s hiney.

Dawn – LOL! Burning your…or melting your mat! Giving new meaning to “hot yoga!”
