A Little Time Downeast

“I’m looking for someplace to eat that features locally grown produce,” I asked.

The response?

“That doesn’t eliminate much!”

Music to my ears…and confirmation that we had picked the right destination. Our Portland, Maine getaway was off to an exceptional (and delicious) start!

These were the ingredients that made this vacation a great one:

Delicious and creative cuisine from a chef with his own farm and a waitstaff that can tell you exactly where every ingredient is sourced.

The magic of Chef Miyake and his amazing yakitori (grilled specialties).

Bike-riding with spectacular ocean views at every turn, lighthouses and plenty of intriguing stops along each route. From Portland, there’s quite a bit to the east, but in order to get there, you have to go north first, and then down south – our route clearly illustrating the meaning of “downeast.”

A long day in the saddle!

A bed and breakfast located perfectly so that you can park you car when you arrive, walk or bike everywhere, and not drive until you’re ready to return home (and especially one that serves amazing breakfasts that accommodate dietary preferences).

Closing your vacation by unexpectedly bumping into Amy Hoff of Hoff Fitness and being reminded that your community is always with you…and in this case, quite literally!

In front of Portland's amazing gluten-free Bam Bam Bakery!

And last but not least, a wonderful partner for the last 25 years with which to share it all.

There are so many destinations that feature these same ingredients. Share your favorite here so we can all start planning our next getaway!

Eat clean live well!
